All-time leaders (1995-2014)

Pitcher Randy Johnson is the all-time Box-Toppers leader with 278.8 points at the close of the 2014 season.

Alex Rodriguez, fourth place overall, is the all-time Box-Toppers leader among batters with 179.3.

Albert Pujols of the Angels debuted on the overall top 10 during the 2014 season. With 167.3 Box-Toppers points to close the season, he rose to seventh place overall. He pushed the previous 10th-ranked player, retired pitcher John Smoltz (160.9 Box-Toppers points), off the top 10 list. Pujols also rose from third to second place among batters since the start of 2014, passing Manny Ramirez (167.2 Box-Toppers points). Ramirez did not play in the Majors in 2014 but served as a minor league player-coach for the Cubs.

Only two of the top 10 overall players were active in the Majors in 2014 and also earned Box-Toppers points:

  • Pujols, who earned 7.5.
  • Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia, who earned 1.0. Sabathia is in fifth place overall with 173.3 Box-Toppers points.

Two other players on the top 10 were active but did not play in the Majors:

  • Ramirez, who served as minor league player-coach for the Cubs.
  • Orioles pitcher Johan Santana, who was re-injured in his attempt to come back after injury. Santana last earned Box-Toppers points in 2012.

One other player, Alex Rodriguez, was suspended the entire 2014 season under baseball's performance enhancing drug policy and did not play. He is slated to return to the Yankees in 2015.

The remaining five players in the top 10—Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Curt Schilling, Roy Halladay and Roger Clemens—are retired.

There was only one change among the ranks of the top 10 pitchers in 2014—Giants pitcher Tim Hudson rose to 10th place with 153.0 Box-Toppers points, passing retired pitcher Greg Maddux (151.7 Box-Toppers points).

The top 10 pitchers list has three active players—Sabathia, Santana and Hudson.

There were several changes in the top 10 batters list during 2014:

  • Pujols passed Ramirez to the number-two spot, as previously mentioned.
  • David Ortiz of the Red Sox rose from ninth to seventh place with 133.4 Box-Toppers points, passing Jason Giambi of the Indians and retired outfielder Vladimir Guerrero.
  • Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers debuted at 10th place with 128.2 Box-Toppers points, passing retired outfielder Gary Sheffield (124.1 Box-Toppers points).

There were five active players on the top 10 batting list at the close of 2014.
