What are those numbers after players' names?
  • National League pitchers—Max Scherzer of the Nationals has passed Gerrit Cole of the Pirates.
  • National League batters—Todd Frazier of the Reds has passed Bryce Harper of the Nationals.

Hernandez has 13.4 Box-Toppers points to lead all players. He has led players all but six days this season.

Scherzer has 13.0 Box-Toppers points to lead NL pitchers. He passes the leader for the past two weeks, Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole (12.0 Box-Toppers points). Scherzer ranks second among all players.

Frazier has 7.2 Box-Toppers points to lead NL batters. He passes last week’s leader Bryce Harper of the Nationals (6.5 Box-Toppers points). Frazier ranks 17th among all players.

Prince Fielder of the Rangers continues to lead American League batters in Box-Toppers points with 7.5. Fielder ranks 15th among all players.

Last year’s overall Box-Toppers points leader, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, currently ranks eighth among NL pitchers with 8.0 Box-Toppers points. Last year, he had 31.5 Box-Toppers points, the fourth-highest single-season total since record keeping began in 1995. At this point last season, he had 12.7 Box-Toppers points.

So far this season, 508 different players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors. There are 202 players who have more than 2.0 Box-Toppers points.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
