In addition, Mike Trout of the Angels has regained the lead among American League batters in Box-Toppers points, supplanting previous leader Prince Fielder of the Rangers.

Arrieta, the overall leader and National League pitching leader, has 25.1 Box-Toppers points and leads second-place player, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw (22.7) by 2.4 Box-Toppers points. Kershaw may only have one start left this season and if so, would only be able to reach 24.7 points, short of Arrieta’s current total.
Third-place player, Blue Jays pitcher David Price (21.1), would need to earn overall Player of the Day in each of what would likely be his final two starts to catch Arrieta—and hope Arrieta does not earn Box-Toppers points in his final starts. If Price earns 4.0 Box-Toppers points and Arrieta earns none, Price would have 25.1—tied with Arrieta—but win on a tiebreaker because he had more Box-Toppers points than Arrieta in 2014.
Price leads all AL pitchers in Box-Toppers points.
Kershaw’s streak of four straight years leading NL pitchers seems to be at an end. Kershaw has also led all players in Box-Toppers points for three of the previous four seasons (2011, 2013 and 2014). Only once in the past 20 seasons of Box-Toppers record keeping has a player led a league category in pitching or batting for more than four years—Randy Johnson led NL pitchers five years in a row, from 1998 to 2002.
Trout (12.0 Box-Toppers points) takes the AL batting lead from Prince Fielder (11.0). If things don’t change in the final week of the season and Trout ends the season leading AL batters with 12.0 points, it would be the lowest single season Box-Toppers point total for a leading AL batter. Previously, the lowest Box-Toppers point total to win Box-Toppers AL Batter of the Year is 12.5 in 2008 by Aubrey Huff of the Orioles.
Trout ranks 25th among all players.
Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies (11.5 Box-Toppers points) maintains his lead among NL batters. He ranks 27th among all players.
If Gonzalez ends up leading NL batters with 11.5 points, it would be the lowest single-season point total for any category leader in Box-Toppers history (which goes back to 1995). The lowest Box-Toppers point total to lead a category at the end of a season is 11.6, set in 2014 by Troy Tulowitzki of the Rockies, who led NL batters.
So far this season 733 different players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors. There are 378 players with more than 2.0 Box-Toppers points.
About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
