Chicago Cubs lead Box-Toppers rankings for 11th week, but challengers are closing in

The Chicago Cubs lead in the Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report slipped a bit, but still held for the 11th straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers' team rankings, through the games of Thursday, June 30. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team have accumulated so far this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from June 24 to 30. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of June 23.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Indians passed the Texas Rangers to top American League teams and the Washington Nationals had the hottest week, picking up more Box-Toppers points than any other team.

What are those numbers after players' names?

The Indians rise to lead AL teams with 62.9 Box-Toppers points, rising from fourth to second place among all teams, picking up 10.2 points in the past week, most among AL teams. The Rangers, the AL leaders for the previous three weeks, fall from second to fourth overall, with 59.2 points, earning 4.0 points during the past week.

The Indians are led by pitcher Corey Kluber (10.8 Box-Toppers points). Top batter is Marlon Byrd (2.5 points). Nineteen different Indians players have earned Player of the Game honors this season.

The Nationals are the hottest team of the week, picking up 10.4 Box-Toppers points. With 61.7 accumulated points, the Nationals rise from fifth to third among all teams. The Nationals picked up 3.7 points this week when they signed starting pitcher Mat Latos to a minor league deal. Latos earned his 3.7 points in April with the Chicago White Sox before slumping and being released. 

The Atlanta Braves fell from 29th to 30th and last place among all teams, with 27.0 Box-Toppers points. The Braves had a net loss of 1.0 Box-Toppers point during the week after trading starting pitcher Bud Norris (3.0 Box-Toppers points) to the Dodgers. Last week’s lowest-ranked team, the Minnesota Twins, rise to 29th place with 30.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.0 points during the past week.
