What are those numbers after players' names?

Kershaw has 20.0 Box-Toppers points at the All-Star break but has been on the disabled list with a mildly herniated disc in his lower back since June 30 with no timetable yet for his return after the All-Star break. Games resume Friday.

Despite being out, Kershaw’s lead has only been reduced by 1.0 Box-Toppers point since the last player rankings report July 1. He now leads second-place player, Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez (14.4) by 5.6 Box-Toppers points.

Meanwhile, all four category leaders from the July 1 player rankings report remain on top for the latest July 10 report at the All-Star break:

National League pitcher—Kershaw leads with 20.0 Box-Toppers points.

American League pitchers—Indians pitcher Corey Kluber has 12.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.7 point in the past week. He ranks fifth among all players.

American League batters—Manny Machado of the Orioles leads with 8.7 Box-Toppers points. He ranks 18th among all players.

National League batters—Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals leads with 7.5 Box-Toppers points. He ranks 30th among all players.

One player rose into Box-Toppers overall top 10 since last week—Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner (11.0) rises to sixth. One player fell from the overall top 10—Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard (10.0) fell to 11th.

So far this season, 562 different players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors. There are 234 players who have more than 2.0 Box-Toppers points. There are 77 players who have made their Box-Toppers debut so far this season, the first time in their career they earned Player of the Game honors.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
