David Price tops players in Game 5 as Red Sox win 2018 World Series title over Dodgers

Red Sox pitcher David Price is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Sunday’s World Series Game 5 as Boston wins its fourth title since 2004.

The Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 Sunday to win the best-of-seven series, 4-1.

Price struck out five over seven innings, allowing one run, three hits and two walks. (See below for a real-time Game 5 narrative via Box-Toppers’ Twitter feed as the game progressed.)

It is Price’s second Player of the Game honor during the World Series—he was also Player of the Game in Game 2. And it is his third Player of the Game honor of the postseason—he was also Player of the Game in the American League Championship Series Game 5 win over the Astros. No other player had more top player honors in the postseason.

David Price earned 14.4 Box-Toppers points in the regular season, 18th among all players, 12th among AL pitchers.

Price had a Box-Toppers game score Sunday of +5.0, highest among all Red Sox players. Steve Pearce had the highest Box-Toppers game score (+3.0) among Red Sox batters (HR 2-4 2R BI). Pearce was Box-Toppers Player of the Game in World Series Game 4. Pearce was also named World Series Most Valuable Player.

Not only did the Red Sox finish far atop Box-Toppers team rankings for the season, they had baseball’s best record in 2018 and won a team-record 108 regular season games.

Red Sox players accumulated 143.6 Box-Toppers points in 2018, ahead of the second-place New York Yankees (135.2).

The Dodgers finished sixth in Box-Toppers team rankings with 128.0 Box-Toppers points, second among National League teams, behind the Milwaukee Brewers (ranked third with 132.4).

The Red Sox also had the edge over the Dodgers in a number of key Box-Toppers statistical categories.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played.
