Braves pitcher Max Fried is Friday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Fried pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out four and allowing four hits and no walks, in the 3-0 win over the Orioles.

Fried earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 7.4 for the season, 60th among all players and 30th among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito struck out eight over seven innings, allowing two runs, three hits and no walks, in the 7-5, 11-inning win over the Rays. Giolito did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the White Sox did not hold the lead after he exited.

Giolito earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 10.4 for the season, 21st among all players and seventh among AL pitchers.

Giolito becomes the 24th player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his second season with 10 or more points. In 2019 with the White Sox he had 13.7 Box-Toppers points, 10th among AL pitchers.

American League Batter of the Day—Luke Voit of the Yankees homered, doubled and went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 10-2 win over the Twins.

National League Batter of the Day—Garrett Hampson of the Rockies homered and went 1-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Notable—Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler has the most 2021 Box-Toppers points among the 15 who earned Player of the Game honors Friday.

Buehler (7.2IP 6H 2R 0BB 8K W in the 3-2 win over the Mets) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.7 for the season, 11th among all players and seventh among NL pitchers.

Sale (5IP 5H 0RBB 5K W in the 6-0 win over the Rangers) trails 28th-ranked player David Ortiz (145.9) on the “all-time” career points list.
