Twins pitcher Josh Winder is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Sunday, Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Winder struck out seven over six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 9-3 win over the Rays.

Winder earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and ranks 74th among all players, 27th among American League pitchers.

This was Winder’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Winder made his Major League debut April 12 and was playing in his fourth career game.

Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman is Sunday’s Box-Toppers NL Player of the Day.

National League Player of the Day—Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman struck out five over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 2-0 win over the Brewers.

Stroman earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season.

Yadiel Hernandez is Sunday’s Box-Toppers NL Batter of the Day.

National League Batter of the Day—Yadiel Hernandez of the Nationals hit two doubles and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 11-5 win over the Giants.

Mike Trout of the Angels is Sunday’s Box-Toppers AL Batter of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Mike Trout of the Angels homered, doubled and went 2-for-2, scoring three times and driving in one run, in the 6-5 win over the White Sox.

Trout has now earned Box-Toppers points in 12 straight seasons with this, his first Player of the Game honor of 2022. Trout earned his first Box-Toppers points in 2011 with the Angels and now has 77.7 career points, second among active AL batters, behind Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers (158.4). His best season was 2016 with the Angels when he had 12.5 Box-Toppers points, second among AL batters. He’s ranked among the top 10 AL batters in a season Box-Toppers points seven times, but has never led. Trout had 1.0 Box-Toppers point in his injury-shortened 2021 season, his lowest single-season total.
