Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Tuesday, Rangers pitcher Martin Perez rises to fifth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning American League Player of the Day honors.

Player of the Day—Wainwright struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 3-2, 10-inning win over the Padres. Wainwright did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Padres tied the game after he exited.

Wainwright earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.0 for the season, 28th among all players and 11th among National League pitchers.

Wainwright also now has 147.3 career Box-Toppers points, 27th among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. With his 2.0 points Tuesday, he passes two players on the “all-time” list—David Ortiz (145.9) and Jim Thome (146.7) and now trails 26th-ranked player Javier Vazquez (148.3).

Perez earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 7.1 for the season, fifth among all players and fourth among AL pitchers.

Alejandro Kirk of the Blue Jays is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers AL Batter of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Alejandro Kirk of the Blue Jays hit two home runs and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 6-5 win over the White Sox.

Mark Canha of the Mets is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers NL Batter of the Day.

National League Batter of the Day–Mark Canha of the Mets doubled and went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 10-0 win over the Nationals.
