Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Saturday, Blue Jays pitcher Jose Berrios rises to seventh place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. Plus, Travis d'Arnaud of the Braves earns Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors for the second straight day.
Player of the Day
Castillo struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 7-0 win over the Rockies.
Castillo earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and ranks 38th among all players. Castillo earned 16.1 Box-Toppers points in 2023, fifth among American League pitchers.
National League Player of the Day
Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler struck out eight over 7 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 9-5 win over the White Sox.
Wheeler took a no-hitter into the eighth inning before giving up his only hit.
Wheeler earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and ranks 70th among all players. Wheeler earned 14.7 Box-Toppers points in 2023, fifth among NL pitchers.
National League Batter of the Day
Patrick Bailey of the Giants homered, doubled and went 4-for-4, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 7-3 win over the Diamondbacks.
