About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.

* Jose Fernandez died Sept. 25, 2016, in a boating accident. He played for the Miami Marlins.
† Prince Fielder announced Aug. 10 he would not be able to continue playing baseball because of injuries. He did not formally retire.
What are those numbers after players' names?
Note: Players are listed with the team with whom they finished the 2016 season. Several players on the list, such as Tim Lincecum, Cliff Lee, Kyle Lohse and Bud Norris were unsigned free agents at season's end. Hiroki Kuroda was playing in Japan.
Team names: In the chart, the teams "ana al" and "fla nl" refer to the Angels and Marlins. Since those teams changed names without changing location (Anaheim Angels became the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Florida Marlins became the Miami Marlins), Box-Toppers did not change the team code names.
