Also, Danny Salazar of the Indians is the new leader in Box-Toppers points this week among American League pitchers, passing previous leader Chris Sale of the White Sox. Salazar has 8.8 Box-Toppers points, eighth among all players. Sale falls to second among AL pitchers with 8.7 points, 10th among all players.
The other three category leaders remain the same from last week:
National League pitchers—Kershaw’s 18.0 Box-Toppers points puts him ahead of second-place NL pitcher Jose Fernandez of the Marlins (11.7).
American League batters—Manny Machado of the Orioles maintains his lead with 8.7 Box-Toppers points. He ranks 11th among all players.
National League batters—Eugenio Suarez of the Reds maintains his lead with 7.0 Box-Toppers points. He ranks 21st among all players.
Three players fell from Box-Toppers overall top 10 list since last week:
- Manny Machado of the Orioles (8.7) fell to 11th.
- Mets pitcher Steven Matz (8.7) fell to 12th.
- Athletics pitcher Rich Hill (8.4) fell to 14th.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
