Kershaw has 20.0 Box-Toppers points and has been on the disabled list since late June with a back injury. No date has been set for his return and there has been speculation he may require surgery—leaving the remainder of his season in doubt.
Still, even though he last earned Box-Toppers points on June 20, he leads second-place player, Marlin pitcher Jose Fernandez (16.4 Box-Toppers points) by 3.6 points. That means Fernandez would need at least two starts to catch Kershaw.
Meanwhile, all four category leaders from the July 10 All-Star break player rankings report remain on top for the latest report:
National League pitchers—Kershaw leads with 20.0 Box-Toppers points.
American League pitchers—Indians pitcher Corey Kluber has 12.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week. He ranks fifth among all players.
American League batters—Manny Machado of the Orioles leads with 8.7 Box-Toppers points. He ranks 20th among all players.
National League batters—Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals leads with 7.5 Box-Toppers points. He ranks 34th among all players.
Two players rose into Box-Toppers overall top 10 since last week—National pitcher Stephen Strasburg (11.4) rises to seventh and Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaad (11.0) rises to ninth. Two players fell from the overall top 10—White Sox pitcher Chris Sale (10.7) fell to 11th and Indians pitcher Danny Salazar (10.5) fell to 13th.
So far this season, 584 different players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors. There are 253 players who have more than 2.0 Box-Toppers points. There are 85 players who have made their Box-Toppers debut so far this season, the first time in their career they earned Player of the Game honors.
About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
