Eric Haase of the Tigers is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Haase hit a pair of three-run home runs (including an inside-the-park homer) and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in six runs, in the 11-5 win over the White Sox.

Haase earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season (and his career) and ranks 287th in season player rankings, 64th among American League batters.

This was Haase’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Haase made his Major League debut Sept. 2, 2018, and was playing in his 62nd career game.

Haase is the fourth batter this season to earn overall Player of the Day honors, after Max Stassi of the Nationals on June 7, Fernando Tatis Jr. of the Padres on June 25 and Ozzie Albies of the Braves on June 30. On the other 91 days of the season so far, pitchers have won overall Player of the Day honors. It may be notable that all four instances of batters winning overall Player of the Day honors have happened since June 3, when Major League Baseball announced the crackdown on pitchers using sticky substances on balls, a rule that began being enforced June 21.

National League Player of the Day—Avisail Garcia of the Brewers hit two doubles and went 4-for-6, scoring once and driving in five runs, in the 11-2 win over the Pirates.

Garcia earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.2 for the season, 10th among NL batters.

Avisail Garcia of the Brewers is Saturday’s Box-Toppers NL Player of the Day.

AL and NL Batters of the Day—There are no separate AL or NL Batters of the Day for Saturday because batters won both overall Player of the Day honors (Eric Haase) and NL Player of the Day honors (Avisail Garcia).

Notable—Angels pitcher Alex Cobb has the most 2021 Box-Toppers points among the 15 who earned Player of the Game honors Saturday.

Cobb (7.2IP 4H R BB 6K W in the 4-1 win over the Orioles) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 5.7 for the season, 55th among all players and 20th among AL pitchers.

Angels pitcher Alex Cobb is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Saturday’s win over the Orioles.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
