Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani of the Angels regains the 2022 Box-Toppers points lead among American League pitchers and extends his lead among AL batters. Plus, Pete Alonso maintains his lead among National League batters.
Overall leader—Musgrove takes the top spot with 11.4 Box-Toppers points, rising from fifth overall last week. He passes last week’s leader, Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan, who falls to third with 10.7 points. Musgrove ranks ahead of second-place player Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (11.0).
Musgrove maintains his lead among NL pitchers for the second week, ahead of Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins (8.7).
American League pitchers—Shohei Ohtani of the Angels regains the lead with 11.0 Box-Toppers points, passing last week’s leader McClanahan (10.7), who falls to second place. Ohtani ranks second among all players, behind Musgrove (11.4). Ohtani led AL pitchers for five straight weeks from April 21 to May 26.
American League batters—Ohtani extends his lead for the ninth straight week with 11.0 points, ahead of second-place Jose Ramirez of the Guardians (7.2 points). Ohtani earned 2.0 points in the past week and ranks second overall.
Ohtani has now won Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors seven times this season, four as a starting pitcher and three as a designated hitter. He still qualifies to rank among both pitchers and batters since more than 25 percent of his Player of the Game honors come in both categories. In 2021, he ranked only as a pitcher since only three of his 12 Player of the Game honors (25 percent exactly) came as a batter.
National League batters—Pete Alonso of the Mets leads for the third week with 9.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week, ahead of second-place Mookie Betts of the Dodgers (6.5). Alonso ranks fifth among all players, falling from second place last week.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
