Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to third place in season player rankings.

Also Wednesday, two other players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earn Player of the Game honors—Astros pitcher Justin Verlander rises to second place and Braves pitcher Kyle Wright rises to sixth.

Player of the Day—Skubal struck out six over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 5-0 win over the Twins.

Skubal earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 7.7 for the season, third among all players and third among American League pitchers, behind overall leader Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (8.0) and Verlander (8.0).

Skubal ranks highest among the four players with 7.7 Box-Toppers points on the season because he has the most 2021 Box-Toppers points (8.7) among them.

Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers NL Player of the Day.

National League Player of the Day—Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera struck out nine over six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and four walks, in the 14-1 win over the Rockies.

Cabrera earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and ranks 67th among NL pitchers.

This was Cabrera’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Cabrera made his Major League debut Aug. 25, 2021, and was playing in his eighth career game.

Both Skubal and Cabrera had Box-Toppers game scores Wednesday of +10.0, but Skubal edged Cabrera for overall Player of the Day honors because he had more innings pitched—seven vs. six

Brendan Rodgers of the Rockies is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers NL Batter of the Day.

National League Batter of the Day—Brendan Rodgers of the Rockies hit three home runs and went 3-for-5, scoring four times and driving in four runs, in the 13-12, 10-inning win over the Marlins.

Alex Verdugo of the Red Sox is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers AL Batter of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Alex Verdugo of the Red Sox hit two doubles and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 7-1 win over the Reds.

Astros pitcher Justin Verlander is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Wednesday’s win over the Athletics.

Rankings—Astros pitcher Justin Verlander rises from eighth to second in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.

Verlander (7IP 2H 3R 2BB 6K ND in the 5-4 win over the Athletics) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 8.0 for the season, trailing only overall leader Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (8.0). Though both Ohtani and Verlander have 8.0 points in 2022, Ohtani ranks ahead because he has more 2021 points—16.1 vs. 0.0. Verlander is both second overall and second among AL pitchers.

Verlander now also has 214.6 career Box-Toppers points, sixth among all players since 1995 when Box-Toppers tracking began. He trails fifth-ranked player, Royals pitcher Zack Greinke (217.8) by 3.2 points. Verlander ranks fourth among active players in career points, second among active AL pitchers behind Greinke.

New NL pitching leader—Braves pitcher Kyle Wright rises from 10th to sixth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings and also rises to first among NL pitchers after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.

Wright (6IP 3H 0R 5BB 5K W in the 6-0 win over the Diamondbacks) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him  7.7 for the season. He rises to first among NL pitchers, passing previous leader Joe Musgrove of the Padres (7.0). Wright still trails Pete Alonso of the Mets (7.7) for the lead among all NL players.

Wright is one of four players currently with 7.7 Box-Toppers points on the season, but Wright ranks lowest of the four because he has the fewest 2021 Box-Toppers points among them (0.0).

Debut—In addition to Cabrera, three other players also made their Box-Toppers debut Wednesday, each with their first career Player of the Game honor:
