Guardians pitcher Triston McKenzie is Thursday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Thursday, Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes rises to 10th place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.
Player of the Day—McKenzie struck out 12 over eight scoreless innings, allowing five hits and no walks, in the 4-0 win over the Tigers.
McKenzie earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 8.0 for the season, 24th among all players and 10th among American League pitchers.
National League Player of the Day—Marlins pitcher Braxton Garrett struck out 11 over six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, in the 3-2, 11-inning win over the Pirates. Garrett did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Pirates tied the game after he exited.
Garrett earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, 50th among NL pitchers.
American League Batter of the Day—Luis Robert of the White Sox hit a grand slam, doubled and went 3-for-5, scoring once and driving in five runs, in the 12-2 win over the Twins.
Robert earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 4.5 for the season, 15th among AL batters.
National League Batter of the Day—Randal Grichuk of the Rockies hit two doubles and went 2-for-4, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 8-5 win over the Padres.
Rankings—Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes rises to 10th place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday.
Burnes (7.1IP 4H 2R ER 3BB 10K ND in the 3-2, 10-inning win over the Giants) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.4 for the season. He ranks fifth among NL pitchers.
Burnes becomes the 11th player this season to reach 10.0 Box-Toppers points. It is his second season with 10.0 or more points. He had 18.1 in 2021 with the Brewers, fifth among all players and fourth among NL pitchers.
With Burnes’ rise, he pushes another player with 10.0 points off the season player rankings top 10 list—Rays pitcher Corey Kluber (10.0 points) falls from 10th to 11th place.
Notable—Mets pitcher Carlos Carrasco now has 105.1 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday.
Carrasco (6IP 5H 0R 2BB 6K W in the 8-0 win over the Cubs) rises to 75th place among all players in career Box-Toppers points since player tracking began in 1995.
