Orioles pitcher Kyle Bradish is Thursday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Thursday, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earned Player of the Game honors—Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias rises to fifth place and Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff rises to seventh place.
Player of the Day—Bradish struck out 10 over 8 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks, in the 2-0 win over the Astros.
Bradish earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 6.0 for the season, 122nd among all players and 45th among American League pitchers.
National League Player of the Day—Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff struck out 11 over six innings, allowing one run, three hits and two walks, in the 5-1 win over the Reds.
Woodruff earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 17.8 for the season, rising from 10th to seventh place in season player rankings, fourth among NL pitchers.
American League Batter of the Day—Randy Arozarena of the Rays hit two doubles and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 10-5 win over the Blue Jays.
National League Batter of the Day—Brendan Donovan of the Cardinals hit a grand slam and went 1-for-4, scoring once and driving in four runs, in the 5-4 win over the Padres.
Rankings—Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias rises from seventh to fifth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday.
Urias (5.1IP 3H R BB 5K ND in the 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 18.4 for the season, second among NL pitchers, behind Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins (19.1).
Notable—Jose Ramirez of the Guardians now has 11.7 Box-Toppers points in 2022—maintaining second among AL batters—after earning 1.0 point as Player of the Game Thursday.
Ramirez (1-2 R 2BI in the 4-2 win over the White Sox) ranks 34th among all players in 2022 Box-Toppers points and trails only Aaron Judge of the Yankees (12.2) among AL batters.
Also notable—Giants pitcher Jharel Cotton earned his first Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor in nearly five years Thursday.
Cotton (2.2IP 2H 0R 0BB K W in the 3-0 win over the Rockies) last earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors Sept. 24, 2017, when he was with the Athletics. Cotton earned 5.7 Box-Toppers points that season, 48th among AL pitchers. He now has 8.7 career points.
Cotton had Tommy John surgery prior to the 2018 season, missing that entire season, and did not pitch in the Major Leagues again until 2021.
