Player of the Day

Parker struck out four over eight scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 7-0 win over the Orioles.

Parker earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season and is 61st in season player rankings, 27th among National League pitchers. Parker earned 6.0 points in his 2024 rookie season, 61st among NL pitchers.

American League Player of the Day

Royals pitcher Kris Bubic struck out six over seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 4-3, 11-inning win over the Rockies. Bubic did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Rockies took the lead after he exited.

Bubic earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, 13th overall and sixth among AL pitchers.

Bubic had a +9.0 Box-Toppers game score Tuesday, same as Mitchell Parker. But Parker beat Bubic for overall Player of the Day honors on a tiebreaker by earning the win, while Bubic picked up a no-decision.

American League Player of the Day is Royals pitcher Kris Bubic.

American League Batter of the Day

Marcus Semien of the Rangers hit a three-run homer, a sacrifice fly and went 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in four runs, in the 8-5 win over the Athletics.

Semien has now earned Box-Toppers points in 10 straight seasons with his first Player of the Game honor of 2025. He earned his first point in 2013 with the White Sox, but earned no points in 2015, so his 10-year streak began in 2016 when he was with the Athletics. Semien has 48.6 career Box-Toppers points, ninth among active AL batters and second among active AL second basemen behind Jose Altuve of the Astros (59.5). (Altuve is still classified as a second baseman, though he currently plays in the outfield.)

Semien’s best season was 2019 with the Athletics when he had 8.7 Box-Toppers points, 10th among AL batters. He earned 2.0 points in 2024 with the Rangers.

American League Batter of the Day is Marcus Semien of the Rangers.

National League Batter of the Day

Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Cubs homered, doubled and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 11-10, 10-inning win over the Dodgers.

Crow-Armstrong earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 2.5 for the season, seventh among NL batters.

National League Batter of the Day is Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Cubs.

Rankings

Padres pitcher Nick Pivetta regains the lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Pivettta (7IP 2H 0R 2BB 6K W in the 2-0 win over the Tigers) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 6.0 for the season, rising from second to first overall, passing previous leader, Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet (5.4 points), who falls to second place. Pivetta maintains his lead among NL pitchers ahead of second-place Yoshinobu Yamamoto of the Dodgers (5.0 points).

Pivetta previously led season player rankings from April 16 until he was passed by Crochet on April 19.

Pivetta had a Box-Toppers game score Tuesday of +9.0, same as Mitchell Parker. But Parker beat Pivetta for overall Player of the Day honors on a tiebreaker with more innings pitched—eight vs. seven. So though they had the same +9.0 game score, Parker earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points as Player of the Day while Pivetta earns just 1.0 as Player of the Game.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
