Reds pitcher Tyler Mahle is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Monday, Paul DeJong of the Cardinals becomes the first to earn Player of the Game honors for the second time this season (doing it two days in a row) and takes the early lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings.
Player of the Day—Mahle struck out seven over six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 1-0 win over the Cubs.
This was Mahle’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Mahle made his Major League debut Aug. 27, 2017, and was playing in his fifth career game. He is the 3,929th player to debut in Box-Toppers since record keeping began in 1995.
American League Player of the Day—Astros pitcher Charlie Morton struck out six over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks, in the 6-1 win over the Orioles.
National League Batter of the Day—Bryce Harper of the Nationals hit a three-run homer and went 1-for-2, scoring three times, in the 8-1 win over the Braves.
American League Batter of the Day—Victor Martinez of the Tigers doubled and went 2-for-3, driving in three runs, in the 6-1 win over the Royals.
Notable—Paul DeJong of the Cardinals Monday became the first player to earn Player of the Game honors twice in the 2018 season and rises to the early lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings. Monday was the fifth day of the season.
DeJong (HR 3-4 2R 3BI in the 8-4 win over the Brewers) was also NL Batter of the Day Sunday. He earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being Player of the Game Monday and now has 2.5 Box-Toppers points for the season, rising to first place among all players, passing previous leader, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer, who earned his 2.0 Box-Toppers points by being Player of the Day on Friday, March 30.
Scoring—Mahle earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Morton earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day.
