Also Tuesday, two other players rise into Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earned Player of the Game honors: Alex Bregman of the Red Sox rises to sixth place and Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga rises to ninth place.

Player of the Day

Mahle struck out nine over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks, in the 4-0 win over the Angels.

Mahle earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.7 for the season, rising to second overall, behind Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert. Though Gilbert and Mahle both have 4.7 Box-Toppers points in 2025, Gilbert ranks ahead because he has more 2024 points—13.0 vs. 0.0.

Mahle also ranks second among American League pitchers behind Gilbert.

Mahle earned no points in 2024 in three starts. He was on the injured list recovering from elbow surgery until Aug. 6. He went back on the injured list Aug. 20 with right shoulder tightness and did not pitch again in 2024.

This is his third Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor of 2025. He also did it April 4 and April 9.

National League Player of the Day

Nationals pitcher Jake Irvin struck out six over seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 3-0 win over the Pirates.

Irvin earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, his first points of the season and is 27th among NL pitchers.

American League Batter of the Day

Tyler Soderstrom of the Athletics hit a pair of three-run home runs and went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in six runs, in the 12-3 win over the White Sox.

Gavin Lux of the Reds went 4-for-4, scoring once and driving in two runs, in the 8-4 win over the Mariners.

  • Alex Bregman of the Red Sox (2HR 2B 5-5 2R 4BI in the 7-4 win over the Rays) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 3.7 for the season, rising to sixth place overall and first among AL batters, passing previous leader Aaron Judge of the Yankees (3.5 points). While Bregman has the same 3.7-point total as Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet, he ranks behind him in player rankings because he has fewer 2024 points—10.7 vs. 1.5.

  • Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga (5IP 4H R 0ER 3BB 7K ND in the 2-1, 10-inning win over the Padres) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 3.0 for the season, rising to ninth place overall and third among NL pitchers, behind Nick Pivetta of the Padres (4.0 points) and Michael King of the Padres (3.4 points). Imanaga is one of eight players with 3.0 points in 2025 and ranks first among them because he has the most 2024 points (20.7).
