Also Friday, Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole rises to fourth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. Plus, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer rises to ninth place on Box-Toppers “all-time” career points list, passing Alex Rodriguez.

Player of the Day—Gibson struck out six over eight scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks, in the 2-0 win over the Royals.

Gibson earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 6.0 for the season, rising to 29th place among all players and 13th place among American League pitchers.

National League Player of the Day—Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing two runs, three hits and walking one, in the 7-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Rankings—Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole rises from seventh to fourth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Friday.

Cole (6IP 3H 2R 2BB 10K W in the 15-2 win over the Blue Jays) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.4 for the season. He ranks third among AL pitchers, behind teammate Justin Verlander (13.8) and Charlie Morton of the Rays (11.8).
