Verlander (5.1IP 4H 0R 0BB 4K W in the 15-1 win over the Rays) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 21.8 for the season. He leads second-place player and teammate Gerrit Cole (20.8).
Verlander also now has 199.9 career Box-Toppers points, rising to sixth place among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. With his 1.0 point Tuesday, he passes Albert Pujols of the Angels (199.8) on the “all-time” list and now trails fifth-ranked player, teammate Zack Greinke (202.4). Verlander now ranks fourth among active players in career points.
Verlander faced off Tuesday against Rays pitcher Charlie Morton, who ranks fifth in Box-Toppers season player rankings with 15.8 points.
