The White Sox rise from second place last week to first place this week with its players accumulating 23.2 Box-Toppers points through the games of May 6, picking up 3.0 points in the past week (since April 29).
The Dodgers had led each of the three Box-Toppers weekly team rankings reports of the 2021 season. But their April dominance turned to dust in May, perhaps exemplified most by the injury this week to pitcher Dustin May, requiring season-ending Tommy John surgery. They team picked up only 1.0 Box-Toppers point this week, tied for the lowest of any team, and have 21.5 Box-Toppers points for the season, eighth place overall.
Though the White Sox lead Box-Toppers team rankings they are second place in the American League Central division, a half game behind the Cleveland Indians. The Phillies passed the Dodgers to rise to first among NL teams and now rank ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers, the second-ranked NL team in Box-Toppers standings, with 21.6 Box-Toppers points, seventh overall. The Phillies have a winning percentage of .531, tied for the fourth-best in the NL, behind the Giants, Cardinals and Dodgers.
The Phillies are led by pitchers Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler, both with 4.7 Box-Toppers points in 2021. Nola ranks ninth among all players and fourth among NL pitchers. The Cleveland Indians rose 12 spots in Box-Toppers team rankings, tied with the Yankees for the biggest climb in team rankings. The Indians rose from 16th place to fourth place with 21.8 Box-Toppers points, picking up 7.2 in the past week.
The Kansas City Royals had the biggest decline in the past week, falling 13 spots from seventh to 20th place with 17.5 points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.
The Detroit Tigers maintain 30th and last place in team rankings with 10.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.5 points in the past week.
