Aaron Judge of the Yankees is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Other Player of the Game winners Saturday include Phillies pitcher Jesús Luzardo, Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga and Matt McLain of the Reds.

Player of the Day

Judge hit three home runs, including a grand slam, in the 20-9 win over the Brewers. Judge also doubled and went 4-for-6, scoring four times and driving in eight runs.

Judge earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season and now ranks second among all players.

Judge is one of five players with 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025. Normally, ties are broken based on players’ 2024 point totals. But Judge and Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert, Thursday’s Player of the Day, also with 2.0 points, both earned 13.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024. So their tie is broken based on 2023 points. Logan earned 13.4 points in 2023 while Judge earned 12.0, giving Logan the tiebreaking advantage, putting him in first place and Judge in second.

Judge’s 13.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024 led all American League batters and ranked 21st among all players.

Judge had a Box-Toppers game score of +10.0, best among Yankees players and highest among all Saturday Player of the Game winners.

In 2024, the highest Box-Toppers game score by a batter earning Player of the Game honors was +14.0 by Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers on Sept. 18 (3HR 2-2B 6-6 4R 10BI vs. MIA).

Only five batters won overall Player of the Day honors in the 185 days of the 2024 season. The other 180 times, a pitcher won Player of the Day. Ohtani, despite his +14.0 game score, did not earn Player of the Day on Sept. 18, beaten by Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Pfaadt with a +15.0 game score. The fifth and final batter to win overall Player of the Day honors in 2024 was Pavin Smith of the Diamondbacks on Sept. 8.

This is Judge’s second career overall Player of the Day honor. He also did it Sept. 22, 2023 (3HR 2B 4-4 3R 6BI in the 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks), with a +9.0 Box-Toppers game score.

He has 70.4 career Box-Toppers points, fourth among active AL batters.

National League Batter of the Day is Phillies pitcher Jesús Luzardo.

National League Batter of the Day

Phillies pitcher Jesús Luzardo struck out 11 over five innings, allowing two runs, five hits and two walks, in the 11-6 win over the Nationals.

Luzardo earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and ranks eighth among all players. Luzardo earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024 with the Marlins, going on the injured list with June with a lumbar stress reaction and missing the remainder of the season. But he earned 17.8 points in 2023, fifth overall and second among NL pitchers.

National League Batter of the Day is Matt McLain of the Reds.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
