Red Sox pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Eovaldi struck out seven over seven innings, allowing one run (none earned), four hits and no walks, in the 8-4, 11-inning win over the Rangers. Eovaldi did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Red Sox did not hold the lead after he exited.

Eovaldi earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.4 for the season, 23rd among all players and eighth among American League pitchers.

Eovaldi becomes the 26th player to reach 10 Box-Toppers points this season. It is his first season with 10 or more Box-Toppers points. His previous best season was 2018 with the Red Sox when he had 8.7 Box-Toppers points, 29th among AL pitchers.

National League Player of the Day—Pirates pitcher Anthony Banda struck out three in a scoreless eighth inning, allowing no hits and no walks, in the 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks.

American League Batter of the Day—Emmanuel Rivera of the Royals doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 7-1 win over the Astros.

This was Rivera’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Rivera made his Major League debut June 28 and was playing in his 18th career game.
