Indians pitcher Cal Quantrill is Friday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Friday, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after earning Player of the Game honors—Rockies pitcher German Marquez rises to third place and Athletics pitcher Chris Bassitt rises to seventh place.

Player of the Day—Quantrill struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 6-1 win over the Tigers.

Quantrill earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 205th among all players and 60th among American League pitchers.

National League Player of the Day—Rockies pitcher German Marquez struck out seven over six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, int he 14-2 win over the Marlins.

Marquez earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 15.4 for the season, rising from fifth to third in season player rankings, behind Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom (16.7 points) and Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole (16.4). Marquez ranks second among NL pitchers behind deGrom.

American League Batter of the Day—Nelson Cruz of the Rays hit a three-run homer, doubled and went 2-for-6, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 10-6 win over the Orioles.

National League Batter of the Day—Tyler O'Neill of the Cardinals homered, doubled and went 4-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one run, in the 4-2 win over the Royals.

Rankings—Athletics pitcher Chris Bassitt rose from 10th to seventh in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Friday.

Bassitt (7IP 5H R 0BB 8K ND in the 4-1, 11-inning win over the Rangers) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.7 for the season, third among AL pitchers, behind Gerrit Cole of the Yankees (16.4) and Tyler Glasnow of the Rays (12.7). Though Glasnow and Bassitt both have 12.7 Box-Toppers points for the season, Glasnow ranks higher because he has more 2020 points—8.0 vs. 6.4.

Notable—White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn now has 102.4 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Friday. He also is the 16th player to reach 10 Box-Toppers points in 2021.

Lynn (6IP 4H R 2BB 8K ND in the 8-6, 10-inning win over the Cubs) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.7 for the season, 14th among all players and sixth among AL pitchers. This is Lynn’s sixth season with 10 or more Box-Toppers points. His best season was 2012 with the Cardinals when he had 17.7 points, eighth overall and sixth among NL pitchers.
