Royals pitcher Brady Singer is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Tuesday, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earned Player of the Game honors—White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease rises to third place and Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan rises to ninth. Plus, Mookie Betts of the Dodgers rises to first place among National League batters in Box-Toppers points Tuesday.
Player of the Day—Singer struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 2-1 win over the White Sox.
Singer earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and ranks 112th among all players, 35th among American League pitchers.
National League Player of the Day—Padres pitcher Mike Clevinger struck out five over five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 3-0 win over the Phillies.
This is Clevinger’s first Player of the Game honor since Sept. 13, 2020. He missed the 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
American League Batter of the Day—Kyle Tucker of the Astros hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in the 13-4 win over the Red Sox. Tucker went 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in six runs.
Tucker earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 2.5 for the season, 10th among AL batters.
National League Batter of the Day—Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers hit three doubles and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 12-3 win over the Diamondbacks.
Freeman has now earned Box-Toppers points in 12 straight seasons. He earned his first Player of the Game honor in 2011 with the Braves and has 68.9 career points, seventh among active NL batters. His best season was 2013 when he had 11.5 Box-Toppers points, second among NL batters. In 2021, he had 4.5 Box-Toppers points with the Braves, 36th among NL batters.

White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease (5.2IP 7H 0R 2BB 9K W in the 3-0 win over the Royals) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 6.0 for the season, rising from 10th to third in rankings. He ranks second among AL pitchers, behind overall leader Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (8.0).
Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan (7IP 4H R 0BB 7K W in the 8-1 win over the Tigers) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 5.7 for the season, ninth among all players and fifth among AL pitchers.
Rankings—Mookie Betts of the Dodgers rises to first place in 2022 Box-Toppers points among NL batters after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.
Betts (HR 2B 3-4 2R 2BI in the 7-6 win over the Diamondbacks) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 4.5 for the season, 20th among all players and rising to first among NL batters, passing previous leader C.J. Cron of the Rockies (4.0).
Streak—Braves pitcher Kenley Jansen has now earned Box-Toppers points in 12 straight seasons after earning his first Player of the Game honor of 2021 Tuesday.
Jansen (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K Sv in the 3-0 win over the Brewers) earned his first Box-Toppers point in 2011 with the Dodgers and has 58.4 career points, fourth among active NL closers. Jansen’s best season was 2013 with the Dodgers when he had 9.7 points, second among NL closers. He had 6.0 points in 2021 with the Dodgers, third among NL closers.
Debut—Reds closing pitcher Alexis Diaz made his Box-Toppers debut Tuesday with his first career Player of the Game honor.
Diaz (1IP 0H 0R 2BB 3K Sv in the 5-4, 10-inning win over the Guardians) made his Major League debut April 8 and was playing in his 16th career game.
