Pivetta earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 54th among all players and 17th among American League pitchers.

National League Batter of the Day—Pete Alonso of the Mets hit a three-run home run and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 11-4 win over the Cardinals.
Alonso earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 4.5 for the season, rising to second place among NL batters. While he has the same 4.5 point total as NL batting leader Mookie Betts of the Dodgers, Alonso ranks second because he has fewer 2020 Box-Toppers points—1.5 vs. 2.5.
Notable—Ty France of the Mariners has the most 2022 Box-Toppers points among the 14 who earned Player of the Game honors Wednesday.
France (HR 3-5 R 2BI in the 5-1 win over the Blue Jays) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 5.0 for the season, 13th among all players and second among AL batters, behind overall leader Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (8.0). It should be noted that Ohtani has earned 4.0 of his points as a batter and 4.0 as a pitcher, meaning France has the most 2022 Box-Toppers points among players who’ve earned them solely as an AL batter.
Also notable—Dodgers pitcher David Price now has 134.0 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.
Price, pitching in middle relief (1.1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K ND in the 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks), rises to 34th place among all players in career points since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 1.0 point Wednesday, Price passes two players on the “all-time” list—Jason Giambi (133.4) and Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg (133.8). Price now trails 33rd-ranked player, Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgarner (136.4). Passing Strasburg, Price now ranks 10th among active players in career points. He ranks fifth among active NL pitchers.
This was also Price’s first Player of the Game honor and first Box-Toppers point of 2022. He earned 2.0 points in 2021 with the Dodgers as a middle relief and closing pitcher. Of his 134.0 career points, only his most recent 3.0 have come as a relief pitcher, the other 131.0 (earned from 2009 to 2019) were as a starting pitcher.
Also notable—Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole now has 127.6 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.
Cole (7IP 6H 2R 0BB 5K W in the 3-2 win over the Orioles) rises to 41st place among all players in career points since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 1.0 point Wednesday, he passes two players on the “all-time” list—Roy Oswalt (127.2) and John Lackey (127.2). Cole now trails 40th-ranked player Jered Weaver (127.8). Cole ranks 12th among active players in career points, fourth among active AL pitchers.
Cole now has 4.7 Box-Toppers points in 2022, 18th overall and ninth among AL pitchers.
Cole now has the most Box-Toppers points of all players over the past two seasons. While he has the same 27.1 Box-Toppers point total over 2021-22 as Mets pitcher Max Scherzer, Cole ranks ahead because he has more 2022 points than Scherzer—4.7 vs. 2.0.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
