Astros pitcher Cristian Javier is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Javier struck out nine over 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 2-1 win over the Guardians.

National League Batter of the Day—Evan Longoria of the Giants hit two home runs, including a three-run shot, in the 9-3 win over the Mets. Longoria went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs.

Longoria has now earned Box-Toppers points in 15 straight seasons with this, his first Player of the Game honor of 2022. It is tied for the fifth-longest currently active such streak and one of 51 streaks of 15 or more seasons by a player since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995.

Longoria earned his first points in 2008 with the Rays and has 57.5 career points, 10th among active NL batters, second among active NL third basemen.   • Jake Burger of the White Sox (HR 1-3 R 3BI in the 3-1 win over the Red Sox) made his Major League debut July 2, 2021, and was playing in his 38th career game.

  • Wander Franco of the Rays (2-2B 2-4 R BI in the 5-4 win over the Marlins) made his Major League debut June 22, 2021, and was playing in his 110th career game. Franco finished third in 2021 Rookie of the Year voting but did not make his Box-Toppers debut until Wednesday.
