Astros pitcher Framber Valdez is Thursday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Valdez earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.0 for the season, 22nd among all players and 10th among American League pitchers.
Valdez becomes the 23rd player this season to reach 10.0 Box-Toppers points. It is his first season with 10.0 or more points. His previous best season was 2021 with the Astros when he had 5.0 Box-Toppers points, 58th among AL pitchers.
National League Player of the Day—Cubs pitcher Drew Smyly struck out nine over five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks, in the 4-2 win over the Reds.
Smyly earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, 36th among NL pitchers.
National League Batter of the Day—Emmanuel Rivera of the Diamondbacks homered, hit two doubles and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 9-3 win over the Pirates.
American League Batter of the Day—There is no separate AL Batter of the Day because no AL batter won Player of the Game honors in the eight games played Thursday.
Notable—Royals pitcher Zack Greinke now has 222.5 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday.
Greinke (6.1IP 9H 0R 0BB 5K W in the 5-3 win over the White Sox) ranks sixth among all players in career points since Box-Toppers player tracking began in 1995. He trails fifth-ranked player, Astros pitcher Justin Verlander (225.6). Greinke ranks fourth among active players in career points, second among active AL pitchers, behind Verlander.
Greinke now has 4.7 Box-Toppers points in 2022, 41st among AL pitchers.
Dylan Cease @WhiteSox fails to win Box-Toppers Player of the Game Thursday because CHW lost (6IP 3H R 2BB 8K L vs. KC), despite his game-best B-T game score (+7.0). Cease is 3rd in 2022 B-T points (16.7).
