Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Tuesday, Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo rises to first place in season player rankings after earning American League Player of the Day honors. Yandy Diaz of the Rays also rises to second place in season player rankings after earning AL Batter of the Day honors.
Player of the Day—Alcantara pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout, striking out five and walking one, in the 1-0 win over the Twins.
Alcantara earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and rises to third place in early season player rankings.
Alcantara earned 21.1 Box-Toppers points in 2022, third overall and first among National League pitchers.
American League Player of the Day—Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo struck out six over 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, in the 11-2 win over the Angels.
Castillo earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 2.7 for 2023, rising to first place in season player rankings, passing previous leader, White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease (2.0), who falls to fourth place.
Castillo is now one of four players who has earned two Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in 2023. He also did it March 30.
Castillo earned 10.0 Box-Toppers points in 2022, 25th among AL pitchers.
National League Batter of the Day—Brian Anderson of the Brewers hit two home runs, including a three-run shot, and doubled, in the 9-0 win over the Mets. Anderson went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in six runs.
American League Batter of the Day—Yandy Diaz of the Rays hit a three-run homer and went 2-for-4, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 10-6 win over the Nationals.
Diaz earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 2.5 for the season, rising to second place in early season player rankings. He is one of four players so far to earn Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors for a second time in 2023. He also did it April 1.
Notable—Bryan Reynolds of Pirates earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors for the second straight day Tuesday.
Reynolds (HR 2B 3-4 R 2BI in the 4-1 win over the Red Sox) was also Player of the Game Monday in the 7-6 win over the Red Sox (2HR 3-5 3R 2BI).
Reynolds has 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2023, eighth in season player rankings and is one of four players with two Player of the Game honors so far in 2023.
Scoring—Alcantara earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Castillo earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day. Anderson and Diaz each earn 1.5 points for being their league’s Batter of the Day. All of Tuesday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart below) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
