Hill had a Box-Toppers game score Wednesday of +10.0, same as two other pitchers who earned Player of the Game honors (Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt and Mets pitcher Kodai Senga), but Hill won overall Player of the Day over both of them because he earned the win in his game, while they both picked up no-decisions in their games.
American League Player of the Day—Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt struck out seven over seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 3-0, 10-inning win over the Yankees. Bassitt did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because when he exited, the game was in a scoreless tie.

Bregman had a +4.0 Box-Toppers game score Wednesday, the same as another AL batter earning Player of the Game honors, Justin Turner of the Red Sox (HR 3-4 2R 2BI in the 12-3 win over the Mariners). But Bregman held the tiebreaking advantage to win AL Batter of the Day honors because he had a home run and double, while Turner had just one he home run.
National League Batter of the Day—James Outman of the Dodgers hit a grand slam and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 7-3 win over the Twins.
Outman earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 4.7 for the season, rising to first place among NL batters, passing previous leader Jake Fraley of the Reds (4.5 points). Outman ranks 21st among all players.

Streak—Justin Turner of the Red Sox has now earned Box-Toppers points in 10 straight seasons after earning his first Player of the Game honor of 2023 Wednesday.
Turner (HR 3-4 2R 2BI in the 12-3 win over the Mariners) earned his first Box-Toppers point in 2011 with the Mets, but earned no points in 2013, so his current 10-season streak began in 2014, when he was with the Dodgers. He has 32.2 career Box-Toppers points, 23rd among active AL batters. His best season was 2022 with the Dodgers when he had 6.5 Box-Toppers points, 14th among NL batters.
Scoring—Hill earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Bassitt earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day. Bregman and Outman each earn 1.5 points for being their league’s Batter of the Day. All of Wednesday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart below) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
