Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Saturday, Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo rises to eighth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning American League Player of the Day honors. Plus, Max Muncy of the Dodgers rises to first place among National League batters in 2023 Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Wheeler struck out 12 over eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 2-1 win over the Braves.

Wheeler earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.0 for the season, 24th among all players and seventh among NL pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo struck out 10 over six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 5-0 win over the Pirates.

Castillo earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 6.4 for the season, rising to eighth place in season player rankings, seventh among AL pitchers.

National League Batter of the Day—Jonathan India of the Reds hit two home runs and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 8-5 win over the Cubs.

American League Batter of the Day—Matt Wallner of the Twins homered and went 4-for-4, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 9-7 win over the Blue Jays.

This was Wallner’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Wallner made his Major League debut Sept. 17, 2022, and was playing in his 28th career game.

Notable—Max Muncy of the Dodgers rises to first place among National League batters in 2023 Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.

Muncy (HR 2B 2-4 2R 2BI in the 6-5 win over the Rays) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 5.0 for the season. He passes previous NL batting leader Nolan Gorman of the Cardinals (5.0). Though Muncy and Gorman both have 5.0 Box-Toppers points, Muncy ranks higher because he has more 2022 points—7.2 vs. 5.0.

Muncy ranks 27th among all players.
