Cubs pitcher Sam Armstrong is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Tuesday’s final day of spring training.

Other Player of the Game winners Tuesday include Dodgers pitcher Dustin May, Royals pitcher Kris Bubic, Tyler Fitzgerald of the Giants and Trevor Larnach of the Twins.

Player of the Day

Armstrong struck out six over four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk, in the 4-2 win over the Braves. Armstrong pitched the final four innings.

Armstrong had a +8.0 Box-Toppers game score, best among all Cubs players and highest among Tuesday’s Player of the Game winners.

Armstrong has played two minor league seasons in the Cubs organization but has yet to make his regular season Major League debut and so has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

American League Player of the Day

Royals pitcher Kris Bubic struck out eight over five innings, allowing one run and one walk, in the 3-1 win over the Rangers.

Bubic earned no Box-Toppers points in 2024 with the Royals, pitching in 27 games. He has 5.0 career Box-Toppers points earned in 2021 and 2022 with the Royals. He underwent elbow surgery in April 2023 and did not return to the roster until July 2024.

National League Batter of the Day is Tyler Fitzgerald of the Giants.

May missed the 2024 season, recovering from July 2023 elbow surgery and July 2024 surgery for an esophageal tear (unrelated to baseball activity). He has 11.7 career Box-Toppers points earned from 2019 to 2023.
