Garrett earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and ranks 21st among all players.
This was Garrett’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Garrett made his Major League debut March 29, 2019, and was playing in his 32nd career game.
American League Batter of the Day
Nelson Velazquez of the Royals homered and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 10-1 win over the White Sox.
National League Batter of the Day
There is no NL Batter of the Day for Thursday because no NL batter earned Player of the Game honors in the six games played.
Notable
Cardinals closing pitcher Ryan Helsley earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors for the second time this season.
Helsley (1IP 0H 0R 0BB K Sv in the 8-5 win over the Marlins) also did it April 2. Helsley earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 2.0 for the season, ranking 10th among all players.
Also notable
Tigers pitcher Shelby Miller earns his first Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor in nearly seven years Thursday.
Miller (2IP 0H 0R 2BB 4K W in the 6-3, 11-inning win over the Mets) last earned Player of the Game honors April 18, 2017, with the Diamondbacks. He earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point that season.
Miller underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2017, missing the remainder of that season. Since then, he has battled injury, opted out of the pandemic-shortened 2020 season and did not earn Box-Toppers points in 2023 with the Dodgers, despite playing in a career-high 36 games that season.
Miller earned 39.1 career points from 2012 to 2017 (he has 40.1 now), earning as many as 15.4 points in 2013 with the Cardinals, his best season, when he ranked ninth among NL pitchers.

Bibee earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day.
Garrett earns 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day.

About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
