Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers lead American League teams and the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers are the hottest teams of the past week.
Dodgers lead
Dodgers players have accumulated 12.7 Box-Toppers points in the first two weeks of the season. They were the hottest team of the first week of the season, picking up 10.7 points, which included 4.0 points earned in the Tokyo Opening Series wins over the Cubs March 18 and 19. Still, without those 4.0 points, the Dodgers’ 6.7 points earned from March 27 to April 3 was most among all teams, just ahead of the 6.5 points earned by the Rangers.
The Dodgers cooled off considerably in the second week of the season with just 2.0 points, tied for fourth-fewest among teams, winning just two of their six games.
The Dodgers have baseball’s third-best winning percentage (.714), which is also third-best in the National League West division behind the San Diego Padres (.769) and San Francisco Giants (.750). The Padres are second in Box-Toppers team rankings with 12.2 points and the Giants are 11th with 9.0 points.
The Dodgers are led by three players, each with 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025:
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who ranks 26th overall and 12th among NL pitchers.
Kirby Yates, who ranks 27th overall and 13th among NL pitchers.
Landon Knack, who ranks 30th overall and 15th among NL pitchers.
It should be noted that Yamamoto and Knack won Player of the Day honors on days in which only one Major League game was played (March 18 and 19 in the Tokyo Opening Series), so it was much easier to achieve than on a day on which a full 15-game schedule was played.
Dodgers’ top-ranked batter is Mookie Betts (1.7 points, eighth among NL batters). Nine different Dodgers players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.
Rangers lead AL teams
The Texas Rangers lead American League teams with 11.2 Box-Toppers points, holding steady in third place overall for the second week. They rank ahead of the second-place AL team, the New York Yankees, in fifth overall with 10.9 points.
The Rangers have the best winning percentage among AL teams (.692) and are led by pitcher Tyler Mahle (2.7 points, ninth overall and second among AL pitchers). Rangers’ top batter is Jonah Heim (1.5 points, 14th among AL batters). Eight different Rangers players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.
Hottest team: Royals and Tigers
The Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers are the hottest teams of the past week, each gaining 6.0 Box-Toppers points and rising 11 spots in Box-Toppers team rankings, the biggest jump among all teams.
The Royals rise from 24th to 13th place with 8.0 points and the Tigers rise from 19th to eight place with 9.0 points.
Biggest fall: Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals fell from 11th to 24th place this week, falling 13 spots in team rankings, the biggest drop. The Cardinals picked up 1.0 point in the past week, giving them 5.5 points in 2025.
Last place: White Sox
The Chicago White Sox fell from 23rd place last week to 30th and last place this week with 2.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 0.0 points in the past week. Last week’s lowest-ranked team, the Atlanta Braves, rose to 27th place with 4.0 points, picking up 4.0 points in the past week.
The White Sox were the lowest-ranked team in Box-Toppers rankings for the final 17 weeks of the 2024 season.
About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
