Heaney struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing one run, five hits and one walk, in the 5-4 11-inning win over the Yankees. Heaney did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Yankees tied the game after he exited.
Heaney earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season and is 14th in season player rankings. Heaney is one of 20 players with 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025 and ranks eighth among them based on his 2024 point total. Heaney earned 9.0 points in 2024 with the Rangers, 33rd among AL pitchers.
American League Player of the Day
Alex Bregman of the Red Sox hit a three-run homer, two doubles and went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in six runs, in the 18-7 win over the Cardinals.
Bregman earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 2.7 for the season, fifth among all players and third among AL batters, behind Aaron Judge of the Yankees (3.0) and Tyler O'Neill of the Orioles (3.0).
Bregman previously earned Player of the Game honors Thursday, April 3. He is one of three players with 2.7 Box-Toppers points in 2025 but ranks third among them because he has the fewest 2024 Box-Toppers points (1.5). The other players with 2.7 points in 2025 are Phillies Zack Wheeler (21.4 points in 2024) and Phillies pitcher Jesús Luzardo (2.0 points in 2024).
(Bregman has earned Box-Toppers points in 10 straight seasons, a feat he achieved April 3, which I missed at the time but have since added to that day’s post.)
National League Batter of the Day
Jackson Chourio of the Brewers hit two home runs, including a three-run homer, in the 8-2 win over the Reds. Chourio also hit a sacrifice fly and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in five runs.
American League Batter of the Day
There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Sunday because the overall AL Player of the Day is batter Alex Bregman.

About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
