Also Monday, Prince Fielder of the Rangers earned Player of the Game honors for the third time in four days and takes the Box-Toppers points lead among American League batters. In addition, Nolan Arenado of the Rockies earned Player of the Game honors for the second straight day and Angels pitcher Jered Weaver rose to 34th place in Box-Toppers points among all players since 1995.

Player of the Day—Hutchison pitched a complete game shutout, striking out eight and allowing four hits, in the 6-0 win over the White Sox.

National League Player of the Day—Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out eight in the 3-2, 10-inning win over the Diamondbacks. Martinez did not earn the win, picking up a no decision. After he exited, the Diamondbacks tied the game 2-2 before the Cardinals won 3-2 in the bottom of the 10th.

American League Batter of the Day—Rangers pitcher Prince Fielder homered, doubled and went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 10-8 win over the Indians. It is the third time in four days Fielder has earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors. He was also Player of the Game Friday, May 22 and AL Batter of the Day Saturday, May 23

Fielder earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day Monday and has earned 4.0 Box-Toppers points over the four-day period. He has 5.5 Box-Toppers points for the season and now leads all AL batters, passing Colby Rasmus of the Astros (5.0 Box-Toppers points). Blue Jays pitcher Drew Hutchison is Thursday’s Player of the Day.

Hutchison struck out seven over eight innings and allowed two runs in the 7-6 win over the Orioles.

National League Player of the Day—Marlins pitcher David Phelps pitched seven shutout innings and struck out five in the 9-1 win over the Phillies. Phelps tied Hutchison for the day’s top Box-Toppers game score of +7, but Hutchison won overall Player of the Day on a tiebreaker—he had more innings pitched than Phelps (eight vs. seven).

American League Batter of the Day—There is no AL Batter of the Day Thursday because no AL batter earned Player of the Game honors.

Streak—Brewers pitcher Kyle Lohse has now earned at least 1.0 Box-Toppers point for 15 straight seasons. Lohse was Player of the Game in Thursday’s 4-2 win over the Reds (7IP 3H 2R 4K W) and earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point, his first of the season. Royals' James Shields tops players for Wednesday, Sept. 10, rises to 16th in Box-Toppers player rankings

Blue Jays' Hutchison, Giants' Lincecum top players for Tuesday, July 1

Blue Jays pitcher Drew Hutchison is Tuesday’s Player of the Day. Hutchison struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing only one run and three hits, in the 4-1 win over the Brewers.

Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum is National League Player of the Day. Lincecum pitched eight shutout innings and struck out six in the 5-0 win over the Cardinals.

Eduardo Nunez of the Twins is American League Batter of the Day. Nunez homered and went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in two runs in the 10-2 win over the Royals.

Seth Smith of the Padres is NL Batter of the Day. Smith homered and went 3-for-4, scoring three runs, in the 8-2 win over the Reds.

Blue Jays' Hutchison, Marlins' Alvarez top players for Tuesday, June 3

Blue Jays pitcher Drew Hutchison is Tuesday’s Player of the Day. Hutchison pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out seven in the 5-3 win over the Tigers. Hutchison did not pick up the win because he left the game with the score tied 0-0.

Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez is National League Player of the Day. Alvarez pitched a complete game shutout in the 1-0 win over the Rays.

Brian Dozier of the Twins is American League Batter of the Day. Dozier homered, went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs in the 6-4 win over the Brewers.

Chris Owings of the Diamondbacks is NL Batter of the Day. Owings homered, tripled and doubled, driving in two runs, in the 4-2 win over the Rockies. This was Owings’ Box-Toppers debut, the first time he has earned Player of the Game honors. He is the 3,347th player to debut on Box-Toppers since record keeping began in 1995. He made his Major League debut Sept. 3, 2013 and was playing in his 72nd game.

Notable: Athletics pitcher Scott Kazmir rises to ninth place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday (see the updated top 10 player list on the home page). Blue Jays' Drew Hutchison tops players for Friday, May 16; Tigers' Scherzer rises to lead AL pitchers in Box-Toppers points

Blue Jays pitcher Drew Hutchison is Friday’s Player of the Day, while Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer takes the Box-Toppers points lead among American League pitchers.

Hutchison pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout, striking out six, in the 2-0 win over the Rangers.

Scherzer took the Box-Toppers points lead among AL pitchers and also rose to second place overall after earning Player of the Game honors Friday.

Scherzer (6IP 0R 7K W in the 1-0 win over the Red Sox) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being Player of the Game, giving him 7.7 for the season. He passes previous AL pitching leader, Masahiro Tanaka of the Yankees (7.7). He trails only Troy Tulowitzki of the Rockies (9.1 Box-Toppers points). While Scherzer and Tanaka both have 7.7 Box-Toppers points, Scherzer wins the tie-breaker because he has more points over 2013-14—25.8 vs. 7.7. Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa is National League Player of the Day. De La Rosa pitched seven scoreless innings—and had a no-hitter through six innings before giving up a hit in the seventh—in the 3-1 win over the Padres.

Christian Yelich of the Marlins is NL Batter of the Day. Yelich homered, went 2-for-4 and scored four runs in the 7-5 win over the Giants. This was Yelich’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time he has earned Player of the Game honors. He is the 3,334th player to debut on Box-Toppers since record keeping began in 1995. He made his Major League debut on July 23, 2013 and was playing in his 102nd game.

Adam Dunn of the White Sox is AL Batter of the Day. Dunn hit a three-run home run and went 2-for-4 in the 7-2 win over the Astros.
