Also Friday, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer rises to become the new Box-Toppers player rankings leader after earning Player of the Game honors. Scherzer passes Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez who had held the top spot for more than two months.

Player of the Day—Anderson struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing one run, in the 7-1 win over the Marlins.
American League Player of the Day—Edwin Encarnacion of the Blue Jays hit two homers, including a grand slam, and went 3-for-5, in the 12-2 win over the Rangers.
National League Batter of the Day—Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies tripled, doubled and went 5-for-5, scoring three times and driving in a run, in the 8-6 win over the Giants.
American League Batter of the Day—There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Friday because the AL’s top overall player was a batter (Edwin Encarnacion).

Scherzer (8IP 5H 2R 7K W in the 5-2 win over the Phillies) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 14.0 for the season. Scherzer passes Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez (13.4 Box-Toppers points). Hernandez had led in Box-Toppers points since April 18 and had led player rankings all but six days this season.
Scoring—Anderson earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Encarnacion earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day. Gonzalez earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day. All of Friday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
