Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson is Box-Toppers spring training Player of the Day for Thursday.
Gibson pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out seven, in the 9-4 win over the Red Sox. Gibson had 8.0 Box-Toppers points in 2015, 33rd among AL pitchers.
National League Player of the Day—Nationals pitcher Blake Treinen pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out four, in the 4-2 win over the Marlins. Treinen had 1.0 Box-Toppers point in 2015.
American League Batter of the Day—Gregorio Petit of the Angels homered and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 6-3 win over the Indians. Petit had 1.0 Box-Toppers point in 2015 with the Yankees.
National League Batter of the Day—Paul Goldschmidt of the Diamondbacks went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 10-6 win over the Reds. Goldschmidt had 10.2 Box-Toppers points in 2015, fourth among NL batters.
Scoring—No Box-Toppers points are awarded in spring training games, but if it were the regular season, Gibson would earn 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Treinen would earn 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day. Petit and Goldschmidt would earn 1.5 points for being top batter in their league for the day. All of Wednesday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) would earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
