Dbacks' Robbie Ray tops players for Sunday, June 11; Yankees' Judge tops AL players, both rise in Box-Toppers' top 10 list

Diamondbacks pitcher Robbie Ray is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day and becomes the fourth player this season with 10 or more Box-Toppers points.

Also Sunday, Aaron Judge of the Yankees rises to sixth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings—first among all batters—after earning American League Player of the Day honors.

Player of the Day—Ray struck out 12 over 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and four walks, in the 11-1 win over the Brewers.

Ray earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.0 for the season, rising from fifth to fourth place in season player rankings. He ranks third among National League pitchers, behind overall leader Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers (14.4) and Max Scherzer of the Nationals (12.0). This is Ray’s first season with 10 or more Box-Toppers points—in 2015 he had 4.0 and in 2016 he had 6.7.

American League Player of the Day—Aaron Judge of the Yankees hit two homers and doubled, going 4-for-4, scoring four times and driving in three runs, in the 14-3 win over the Orioles.

Judge earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 8.2 for the season, rising to sixth place in season player rankings, first among all batters and the only batter among the overall top 10 players. He passes previous AL batting leader Miguel Sano of the Twins (6.5).

National League Batter of the Day—Buster Posey of the Giants doubled and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 13-8 win over the Twins.

American League Batter of the Day—There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Sunday because the overall AL Player of the Day is batter Aaron Judge.

Streak—Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ has now earned Box-Toppers points in 10 straight seasons after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.

Happ (6IP 6H 0R BB 8K W in the 4-0 win over the Mariners) earned his first Box-Toppers point in 2008 with the Phillies and has 52.2 career points, 26th among active AL pitchers. His best season was 2016 with the Blue Jays when he had 14.7 Box-Toppers points, third among AL pitchers.

Debut—Rangers pitcher Austin Bibens-Dirkx made his Box-Toppers debut Sunday, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors.

Bibens-Dirkx (7IP 3H R BB 2K W in the 5-1 win over the Nationals) made his Major League debut May 17 and was playing in his seventh career game. He is the 3,820th player to debut in Box-Toppers since record keeping began in 1995.

Scoring—Ray earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Judge earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day. Posey earns 1.5 points for being NL Batter of the Day. All of Sunday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
