Also Tuesday, Astros pitcher Justin Verlander rises to eighth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Ray struck out 10 over 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, in the 6-0 win over the Padres.

Ray earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, 53rd among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger struck out 10 over six innings, allowing one run, three hits and one walk, in the 9-3 win over the Royals.

Clevinger earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 11.7 for the season, 22nd among all players and 14th among AL pitchers.

National League Batter of the Day—Yadier Molina of the Cardinals hit a grand slam, going 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 11-8 win over the Nationals.

American League Batter of the Day—Mikie Mahtook of the Tigers homered and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 8-3 win over the White Sox.

Mahtook is the only AL batter to earn Player of the Game honors Tuesday.

Rankings—Astros pitcher Justin Verlander rises to eighth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.

Verlander (7IP 3H R 2BB 8K W in the 5-2 win over the Twins) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 16.4 for the season. He now ranks sixth among AL pitchers.

Verlander now also has 170.4 career Box-Toppers points, 12th among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. He trails 11th-ranked player Roy Halladay (170.7). Verlander ranks seventh among active players in career points.
