Meanwhile, there are new leaders in 2019 Box-Toppers points in three of the four major categories:
American League pitchers—Verlander passes Bauer.
National League pitchers—Chris Paddack of the Padres passes German Marquez of the Rockies.
American League batters—Joey Gallo of the Rangers passes Tim Beckham of the Mariners.
Verlander, with 6.4 Box-Toppers points, rises to lead this week’s player rankings report, passing Bauer, last week’s leader, who falls to second with 5.4 points. Verlander also passes Bauer for the lead among AL pitchers.
This is the first time Verlander has led Box-Toppers season player rankings at any point in a season since he led all players in points at the end of the 2012 season with 24.8 points. (Verlander was with the Tigers then.)
NL pitchers—Chris Paddack of the Padres rises to lead NL pitchers with 5.0 Box-Toppers points, passing last week’s leader, Marquez, who falls to fifth among NL pitchers with 4.0 points. Paddack ranks fourth among all players.
AL batters—Joey Gallo of the Rangers rises to lead AL batters with 4.0 Box-Toppers points, passing last week’s leader, Beckham, who falls to second among AL batters with 3.5 points. Gallo ranks 15th among all players.
NL batters—Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers maintains his lead among NL batters with 5.2 Box-Toppers points, earning no points in the past week. He ranks third among all players.
So far this season, 274 different players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors. There are 46 players who have more than 2.0 Box-Toppers points. There are 27 players who have made their Box-Toppers debut so far this season (four in the past week), the first time in their career they earned Player of the Game honors.
