Also Saturday, Astros pitcher Justin Verlander extends his lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning American League Player of the Day honors.

Player of the Day—Gray struck out seven over 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks, in the 4-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Gray earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season. He ranks 52nd among all players and 21st among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Astros pitcher Justin Verlander struck out eight over eight innings, allowing one run, four hits and two walks, in the 5-1 win over the Athletics.

Verlander earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 13.8 for the season, extending his lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings over second-place player, Brewers pitcher Josh Hader (10.0). Verlander also extends his lead among AL pitchers, now with a 5.0-point lead over second-place Charlie Morton of the Rays (8.8).

National League Batter of the Day—Orlando Arcia of the Brewers hit two homers, including a go-ahead, two-run, 13th-inning shot, in the 12-10, 13-inning win over the Pirates. Arcia went 2-for-6, scoring three times and driving in four runs.

American League Batter of the Day—Byron Buxton of the Twins homered and went 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in two runs, in the 6-2 win over the Rays.

Notable—Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw now has 219.5 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.

Kershaw (7IP 6H R 0BB 6K ND in the 4-3 win over the Phillies) ranks third in career points among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began.
