Eugenio Suárez of the Diamondbacks became the 19th player in Major League history to hit four home runs in a game but did not win Player of the Game honors because his team lost, 8-7 in 10 innings, to the Braves.

Suárez (4HR 4-4 4R 5BI) had the highest Box-Toppers game score (+9.0) of all Saturday’s MLB players. But Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors went to Sean Murphy of the Braves (HR 1-2 R BI) with a +1.0 game score.

Suárez is just the third player in MLB history to hit four home runs in a losing effort. It was also done by Ed Delahanty of the Phillies in 1896 and Bob Horner of the Braves in 1986. Suárez’s five runs batted in were the second-fewest by a player with four home runs in a game—in 2002 Mike Cameron of the Mariners hit four solo home runs with four RBIs. The Diamondbacks’ seven runs Saturday are the fewest by any of the 19 teams in MLB history with a player hitting four home runs in a game.

Suárez has 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, ninth among NL batters. He earned 8.5 points in 2024, eighth among NL batters.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
