Box-Toppers Daily Scorecard graphic.png

Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Sunday’s spring training games.

Burnes struck out nine over five innings, allowing one run, three hits and two walks, in the 7-1, seven-inning win over the Reds.

Burnes would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Box-Toppers Player of the Day if this were a regular season game. Because it’s a preseason exhibition game, no Box-Toppers points are awarded.

Burnes earned 7.7 Box-Toppers points in 2020, 11th among all players and seventh among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Chris Betts of the Rays went 2-for-2, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 16-5 win over the Braves.

Betts would have earned 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day in a regular season day. Betts has not made his regular season Major League debut and so has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

National League Batter of the Day—Jesus Aguilar of the Marlins homered, doubled and went 3-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 10-2 win over the Mets.

Aguilar would have earned 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day in a regular season day. He earned 1.0 Box-Toppers points in 2020 with the Marlins and 2.5 points in 2019 with the Brewers and Rays.

American League Batter of the Day—There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Sunday because the overall AL Player of the Day is batter Chris Betts.

There were 14 games played Sunday. No Player of the Game was named in two of the games because they ended in a tie (Tigers 4, Blue Jays 4 and Padres 3, Indians 3). Box-Toppers’ Player of the Game winners for the other 12 games are listed in the chart below.

Scoring—No Box-Toppers points are awarded in exhibition games. Were it a regular season day, Burnes would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Betts would have earned 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day. Aguilar would have earned 1.5 points for being NL Batter of the Day. All of Sunday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) would have earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
