White Sox’ Lynn tops players for Thursday, April 8; Cubs’ Kimbrel rises to 1st in player rankings

White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn is Thursday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Thursday, Cubs closing pitcher Craig Kimbrel took the lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning National League Player of the Day honors.

Player of the Day—Lynn struck out 11 in a complete game, five-hit shutout, walking none, in the 6-0 win over the Royals.

Lynn earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season. While he is one of 10 players now tied with 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2021, Lynn ranks highest among them because he has the most 2020 Box-Toppers points in that group (9.1), just ahead of Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow (8.0). National League Player of the Day—Cubs pitcher Craig Kimbrel struck out three over 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and no walks, and picking up the save, in the 4-2 win over the Pirates.

Kimbrel earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 2.7 points for the season, rising to first in season player rankings, passing previous leader, Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow (2.0 Box-Toppers points), who falls to third place. Kimbrel also earned Player of the Game honors April 4.

Mitch Garver of the Twins is Thursday’s Box-Toppers AL Batter of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Mitch Garver of the Twins hit a three-run homer, doubled and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 10-2 win over the Mariners.

Luis Guillorme of the Mets is Thursday’s Box-Toppers NL Batter of the Day, with a ninth-inning pinch hit and a run scored on a walk-off hit by pitch.

National League Batter of the Day—Luis Guillorme of the Mets went 1-for-1, scoring once and driving in no runs, in the 3-2 win over the Marlins.

Angels pitcher Raisel Iglesias is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Thursday’s win over the Blue Jays.

Notable—Angels pitcher Raisel Iglesias rises to 10th place in Box-Toppers season player rankings Thursday after earning Player of the Game honors for a second time this season.

Iglesias (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K Sv in the 7-5, 11-inning win over the Blue Jays) now has 2.0 Box-Toppers points on the season, one of 10 players tied with 2.0 points, and is 10th in season player rankings. He also earned Player of the Game honors April 1.
