Mets pitcher Tylor Megill is Friday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Friday, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earn Player of the Game honors—Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler rises to third place and Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta rises to eighth place.

Player of the Day—Megill struck out five over six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 3-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Megill earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 210th among all players and 68th among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Red Sox pitcher Phillips Valdez struck out seven over three scoreless innings of middle relief, allowing one hit and one walk, in the 6-2 win over the Yankees.

Valdez came in for relief in the second inning after starter Eduardo Rodriguez exited with an injury. Valdez did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Red Sox trailed when he exited.

This was Valdez’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Valdez made his Major League debut June 8, 2019, and was playing in his 56th career game.

National League Batter of the Day—Charlie Blackmon of the Rockies homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 9-6, 10-inning win over the Dodgers.

American League Batter of the Day—Joey Wendle of the Rays hit a ninth-inning, pinch-hit, go-ahead single, going 1-for-1, scoring once and driving in one run, in the 10-5 win over the Indians.

Wheeler—Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler rises from fourth to third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Friday.

Wheeler (7IP 7H R 2BB 8K W in the 5-1 win over the Braves) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 15.1 for the season, rising to second place among NL pitchers, behind only Jacob deGrom of the Mets (16.7).

Peralta—Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta rises to eighth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Friday.

Peralta (4IP H 0R 2BB 5K ND in the 7-1 win over the White Sox) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.7 for the season, sixth among NL pitchers.

Peralta is the 10th player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his first season with 10 or more points. His best previous season was 2018 with the Brewers when he had 8.7 points, 30th among NL pitchers.
