Blue Jays’ Ray tops players for Wednesday, Aug. 25; Woodruff, Buehler rise in player rankings top 10

Blue Jays pitcher Robbie Ray is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Wednesday, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after earning Player of the Game honors—Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff rises to fifth place and Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler rises to ninth place.

Player of the Day—Ray struck out 14 over seven innings, allowing one run, five hits and one walk, in the 3-1 win over the White Sox. Ray did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was tied, 1-1, when he exited.

Ray earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 11.0 for the season, 19th among all players and sixth among American League pitchers.

Ray becomes the 29th player to reach 10 Box-Toppers points this season. It is his second season with 10 or more points. In 2017 he had 16.0 points with the Diamondbacks, 10th among all players and fifth among National League pitchers.

National League Player of the Day—Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff struck out 10 over six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 4-1 win over the Reds.

Woodruff earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 16.1 for the season, rising from seventh to fifth in season player rankings, fourth among NL pitchers.

National League Batter of the Day—Connor Joe of the Rockies hit a grand slam and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 13-10, 10-inning win over the Cubs.

American League Batter of the Day—Anthony Santander of the Orioles homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in one run, in the 10-6 win over the Angels.

Rankings—Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler rises to ninth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.

Buehler (6.2IP 3H R 0ER BB 8K ND in the 5-3, 16-inning win over the Padres) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 13.7 for the season. He ranks sixth among NL pitchers.

Debut—Yu Chang of the Indians made his Box-Toppers debut Wednesday with his first career Player of the Game honor.

Chang (HR 2B 2-4 2R 2BI in the 7-2 win over the Rangers) made his Major League debut June 28, 2019, and was playing in his 101st career game.
